Day 1: Arrive in Bhutan.
Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, you will be met by your tour guide and drive to hotel in Thimpu. Sightseeing in Thimphu includes the late king’s Memorial Chorten, Arts & Painting School, and Handicrafts Emporium. In the afternoon stroll through town: not far from the market place is the Changlimithang ground where you will always find the game of archery (The national sport of Bhutan) being played. In the evening ,visit Tashichho Dzong, seat of the Royal Government and central monastic body, it was rebuild in the early 1960s after a fire destroyed most of the building
Day 2: Thimphu – Hike to Tango & Cheri Monastery.
After breakfast drive towards the north direction of the town for about an hour, hike up to the Cheri monastery from the end of the road. After visiting the monastery drive back for the lunch. Visit the Town and free time on your own in the afternoon.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha
After breakfast, drive east climbing steadily towards the Dochula passes at an altitude of 10,000 feet. A large Chorten and a lot of prayer flags greet you as you face the range of majestic peaks towards the North. Gangkhar Puensum, is one of the highest unclimbed peak. The descent from the pass through temperate forests colored with rhododendrons and magnolias, down to the semitropical zone of orange, banana and cactuses. Punakha dzong built in the 16th century was the winter capital for 300 years; today it is winter home to the Je Khenpo the chief Abbot, hundreds of monks and also serves as the administrative headquarters for Punakha district.
Day 4: Punakha – Gangtey
After breakfast, we will drive to Gangtey, on the way we will stop by for a short hike, Situated near the river on a small plateau is the famous chime Lhakhang built by famous Divine mad man, Drukpa Kunley, a famous pilgrim site for infertile women who wish to bear children. After the hike we take approximately 3 hours drive to one of the most beautiful open valleys in Bhutan, Gantey is the winter home to the rare and endangered Black Necked Cranes (gurus nigricllis) which migrate to Bhutan around mid November from Tibet, and central and eastern Sikang, Yunna and Tonkin in China. The Bhutanese have their songs of the crane popular among village folks. The small village is dominated by the yellow roofed Gangtey Monastery, said to be one of the Nyingmapa monastery in Bhutan headed by the Gantey Tulku (ninth reincarnation to bear the name).
Day 5: Gangtey – Paro via Thimphu.
Retrace the route via Thimphu. After lunch continue driving to Paro. If time permits we will visit Drukgyal Dzong, which is in ruin at this movement, was one of the fortresses built against the Tibetan invaders. On the way up or down you will visit the 7th century monastery “Kyichu Lhakhang” built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, then to the National Museum of Bhutan.
Day 6: Paro – Taktsang Excursion
A day hikes to Taktsang, Tiger’s Nest. This magical monastery clings to a vertical granite cliff 9700ft above the valley floor. Legend says that Guru Rimpoche flew here on the back of the tigress hence the name to meditate. The tigress was actually his favorite consort, Yeshe Tsogyal.
Day 7: Paro airport.
