Helambu is a region of highland villages in Nepal, close to Kathmandu. The Helambu region begins at the lauribina la pass and descends to the Melamchi valley. Helambu is famous for its sweet apples and artistic Buddhist monasteries.
Helambu trekking is a good for short time trekkers who want to get away from city and want to have real taste of trekking in Nepal. Helambu circuit is a week trek which starts in Kathmandu itself, but can be completed in as little as 5-6 days. The Helambu valley trek starts at sundarijal in general, and goes past Chisapani, Kutumsang, Magingoth, Tharepati, Melamchi gaun, Tarkegyang. After which there are two options: the trek to Melamchipul via Sermathang and the bus to Melamchipul via Kiul. The highest point of Helambu valley trek is Tharepati at 3650m, so there is less risk of altitude sickness on Helambu circuit trek.
Helambu lies 75km north of Kathmandu and it is inhabited by the Sherpa. You can join Langtang and Gosaikunda trek with Helambu circuit trekking which gives you the more opportunity to explore about Helambu. Helambu circuit trek is one of the most beautiful and unique trek. Helambu region is also famous for apple production. Helambu valley trek is a nice trekking option in the less crowed region and the landscape and view are breathtaking. A good preparation for trekking is nice since the trekking route is almost up and down. We sleep and eat at tea house along the way. It is good idea if you bring your own sleeping on the trekking.
Day 1: Arriving in Kathmandu
Namaste and welcome to Nepal, upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will have warm reception meeting and greeting from us, and then transfer to your hotel, we will wait you at arrival exit door outside airport with your name written on paper.
Day 2: Sightseeing / Cultural day walk in Kathmandu
Half day sightseeing around Kathmandu, Patan city where you will have time to see fascinating Buddhist and Hindu temples and shrines reflecting ancient local tradition are highlighted on my guided tour. There’s time to explore the city’s many charms on your own or take a rest while finalize trekking permits. In the evening delicious traditional Nepali welcome dinner wait for you.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Chisapani trekking
Drive to Sundarijal northern edge of the Kathmandu valley about 1 hour by taxi and start to hike up to Mulkharka the sprawling Tamang settlement. The trail continues gently climb through the forests ridges than it drops down to Chisopani (2300m) situated on the ridge from where you can see countless snow peaks. Stay overnight there.
Day 4: Chisapani to Kutumsang hiking
The trail continues drop down to Pati Bhanjyang than start climb up to Chipling (2170m.) where we can stop for lunch. Then trek to Kutumsang the trail traverses through delightful, classic hill village with a nice street, some shops where there are good mountains views. Overnight at Kutumsang.
Day 5: Kutumsang to Tharepati walking
From Kutumsang the first part of the trail climbs on a steep, eroded trail and rhododendron forest without settlements but few shepherds’ huts. When we walk on the ridge we can see views of Langtang and Gosaikunda Peaks. The trail now descends to Magen Goth where we will stop for lunch, and then the trail makes some ups and downs passing through forests to reach Tharepati (3490m). The whole day trek takes about 5/6 hours. Stay overnight at Tharepati.
Day 6: Tharepati- Tarkegyang Trekking
The trail continues descend to Malemchi gaun and we will have lunch there, and then continue descend down to Melamchi Khola. After crossing its suspension bridge at 1890m the trail begins the ascent towards Tarke Gyang, which is the largest village in Helambu region. Stay overnight there.
Day 7: Tarkegyang –Kakani trekking
The trail is quite easy, it continues at around the same altitude along the side of the ridge, crossing a number of streams in the heart of Helambu region. Then we reach at the edge of the large village of Sermathang (2620m). There are some old gompa and Langtang National Park Office. Lunch at Sermathan and stay overnight there.
Day 8: Shermathan – Melamchipul trekking
The trail follows the ridges passing shorten and drop to the tiny pretty village of Kakani situated on the ridge. This is a wonderful place for splendid mountains views where we will stop for lunch. From Kakani the trail traverse several picturesque small villages and drops to Melamchi Pul Bazaar about 7 hours where we can have lunch. Malamchi Bazaar has a collection of shops and teahouses and abundant lodges and stay overnight there.
Day 9: Melamchi to Kathmandu.
After breakfast we can drive to Kathmandu by vehicle about 4 hours
