Tamang Heritage trail is one of the nearest Trekking destinations from Kathmandu. This trek has unparalleled combination of natural beauty and cultural riches of Langtang Region. A five to six-day trek from sybrubensi is the best option. Mentally prepared and strong will hold trekkers can do this trekking.
Trekking in Langtang region offers an experience not to be found elsewhere. The trails in the region are challenging with long, steep climbs and descents, often moraines. We would have outstanding close-up mountain views in this trek. The trek also offers an opportunity for the trekkers to interact with the local inhabitants. Sherpa, Tamangs, Ghale, are the indigenous inhabitants of this region. The region has well-established lodges along the trail.
It is one of the closest destinations for trekking from Kathmandu. Generally, the region is also quieter than the Annapurna or Everest. Superb clear view of the great peak of Langtang Lirung (7246m.), which dominates the Upper Langtang Valley, can be outstanding after the monsoon. In spring time, this is an ideal route for those interested in birds and flowers. Both seasons allow us to reach the glaciers below Langtang Lirung and climb Tsergo Ri for some magnificent panoramas. Our return journey takes us through the spectacular holy lake at Gosainkunda region we can see red panda, an important place of pilgrimage, and across the Laurebenayak Pass which brings us to the gentler region of Helambu and finally to the edge of Kathmandu, Melamchi.
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu.
Receive you at Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel. We will wait you at arrival exit door outside Kathmandu airport with your name written on Paper.
Day 2: Kathmandu Tour and Travel.
Kathmandu tour travel visit world heritage sites of Kathmandu valley –Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple, Boudanath stupa and Kathmandu durbar square. Trekking briefing and meeting with your guide and helper. Discuss about trekking with you guide.
Day 3: Kathmandu – Syabru bensi (1450m)
We drive for 7 hours to Syahru bensi via Trishuli and Dhunche along the Pasang Lhamu highway we will reach Syabru bensi and stay overnight at there.
Day 4: Syabru bensi – Gatlang (2238m)
Trek to Goljung and Gatlang from Syphrubensi takes about 5-6 hours. The trail trail passes through Goljung village. Experience the traditional Tamang culture and lifestyle and have panoramic view of Mt. Langtang and other mountain peaks. Walk along the villages and see cultural shows at Goljung and Gatlang.
Day 5: Gatlang – Acclimatization – Nature walk - Exploration
Today, we have a full day at this typical Tamang village exploring many of its attractions which have been broken down as follows
Day 6: Gatlang – Tatopani (2607m)
Trek to Tatopani from Gatlang takes 5/6 hours. On the way, we can have a panoramic view of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. We will take a bath in the hot spring.
Day 7: Tatopani – Thuman (2338m)
Trek to Thuman via Nagthali. We will pass through a dense alpine forest before reaching Briddim village, a typical Tamang settlement. After having a close mountain view and observing the village life, we will have to go uphill to reach the Nagthali hill. The hill is quite rich in biodiversity and is also a suitable place to have spectacular view of mountains. Then, we will descend along a forest trail, where we may see wildlife such as deer and monkeys. After completing about 5 hours of trek, we will reach Thuman village. We will oberve Tamang cultural show and stay overnight at home stay accommodation.
Day 8: Thuman – Timure (1814m) - Rasuwagadi (1762m) - Timure
Trek to Rasuwagadhi via Timure and return to Timure. We have lunch today at Timure. We can complete today’s trek within 6-7 hours. We will have to walk along the Bhote Koshi, the biggest tributary of the Trishuli River to get in the historic site of Rasuwagadhi. The site is located on Nepal-Tibet border. We will enjoy the scenic beauty and Tibeto-Burman Tamang culture in Rasuwagadhi and Timure. Overnight stay at local lodges at Timure.
Day 9: Timure – Briddim (2229m)
Today, we will trek for 4 hours. We will walk along the banks of the Bhote Koshi and after Lingling village it will be gradual ascent to Briddim. As we reach Briddim, we will observe cultural shows presented by the local community. We will experience a unique hospitality of home stay.
Day 10: Briddim to Lama Hotel (2450m)
After breakfast, we will visit the local monastery and have a scenic view. Since the village is close to the beautiful forest, we can watch various species of birds. We can also be familiar with the culture and lifestyle of the local people.
Day 11: Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3330m).
Having breakfast at Lama Hotel, we trek to Langtang village (3330m.) via Ghoda Tabela (2900m) which takes about six hours. We would find some grazing grounds of Yak on the way. The local people bring their livestock for grazing in the high pastures during the summer months. We find a monastery before we reach Langtang Village. We pay our short visit to the monastery and arrive at our destination.
Day 12: Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3880m)
Our trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens further and the views become more extensive to Kyangjin Gompa is reached after crossing several small streams and moraines. We would visit the cheese factory at Kyangjin Gompa. We would enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Larpa (6990m.), Langtang Ri (6370m.), Langtang Lirung (7245m.) and many more. Trekking normally takes 3/4 hours.
Day 13: Kyangjin Gompa
We would acclimatize at Kyangjin Gompa and go for excursion to utilize our time. We would visit the kyanjin Ri, or Tsergo Ri, monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice falls and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4350m).
Day 14: Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2450m)
From Kyangjin, we retrace our route following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghoda Tabela. Having lunch at Ghoda Tabela, we trek steep descent to Lama Hotel. It is nearly 6 hours downhill trekking.
Day 15: Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2260m)
The beginning of the trek is gently descending till Pairo and then goes steep up to Thulo Syabru. En route, one could see red pandas, monkey and various species of birds. It is also 6/7 hours trekking.
Day 16: Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (3330m)
Trek goes to Foprang Danda (3200m.) passing through Dursagang (2660m.). We would be lucky enough to view Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain and forests of Oak, Hemlock and Firs. After a while, we reach Sing Gompa. We would find a well-managed local cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery at Sing Gompa too. Trekking takes 5/6 hours walking.
Day 17: Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda (4440m)
Trek to Gosaikunda (4440m.) via Lauribinayak La (3920m) following a rugged trail with dramatic views of Himal chuli (7893m) Manaslu (8156m) and Ganesh Himal (7406m.). On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising up gently behind. To the north, we would see Langtang Lirung. It take 6/7 hours uphill trekking.
Day 18: Gosainkunda to Ghopte (3530m).
The trail leaves Gosainkund and climbs through rugged country, past four more small lakes to the Laurebina La (4610m), the highest point of this trek. Keep looking back for spectacular views of Manaslu and the mountains of the Ganesh Himal, as well as the now familiar Langtang Lirung. You then descend steeply to Phedi and ascend to Ghopte. It takes 6/7 hours trekking.
Day 19: Ghopte to Melamchi Gaon (2650m)
Today we trek to Melamchi Gaon (2650m.) via Tharepati Pass (3490m.) The first part of our trail is slightly descending and then starts ascending through the rhododendron forests until Thearepati. From Tharepati, the trail gradually descends through pine and rhododendron forests down to Helambu valley. We would see Jugal Himal and Numbur of Solu Khumbu from here. Melamchi Gaon is mainly inhabited by Sherpa people. We would visit the monasteries at our leisure at Melamchi. It is about 5/6 hours trekking.
Day 20: Melamchi Gaun to Tarkeghyang (2743m)
We trek to Tarkeghyang (2743m), it takes 4/5 hours. The early part of the trek descends until we cross the stream named as Melamchi. From here, our trail goes to Tarkeghyang. It is a beautiful Sherpa village with one of the oldest and biggest monasteries.
Day 21: Tarkeghyang to Shermathang (2621m)
Trek to Shermathang (2621m), it takes 4/5 hours trekking. Trekking today is comparatively easier than the previous days as the trail goes through flat land with beautiful forests. On the way, we would penetrate the village called Shermathang where we would visit some ancient monasteries.
Day 22: Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846m)
Today we trek to Melamchi pul Bazaar (846m), it takes 4/5 hours downhill trekking. The trail gradually descends all the way to Melamchi pul Bazaar through meadows ad cultivated fields. On the way, we come across several villages. En route, we would interact with the local people and know their culture and way of life.
Day 23: Drive to Kathmandu (1320m)
We drive to Kathmandu for 4 hours. The road is graveled and bumpy till Lamidanda and then we will have pitched road up to Kathmandu.
Day24: Kathmandu Tour.
Kathmandu sightseeing tour visit UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu valley –Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swoyambhunath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Day25: Kathmandu Airport.
Final transfer to airport to get your flight back to home.
