Within easy access of Kathmandu we ascend the road north towards the Tibetan borderlands and enjoy a relatively gentle circuit trek through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and peaceful valleys where only the most discerning trekkers go. Enroute, we enjoy panoramic mountain views of the nearby peaks and soak in the natural hot springs at Tatopani. Continuing north towards Tibet we soak up the heritage and appreciate a local fort, monastery and exquisite local architecture of the Tamang homes. As we near the end of the trek we enjoy a homestay experience in Briddim and have a full day to relax and discover more about the local traditions of this wonderful region.
The Tamang Heritage Trail Trek starts either from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through the traditional Tamang villages -Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, and Briddim. There has now nice home stay and guest house to sleep and eat on Tamang heritage trekking trail. A good level of fitness is necessary for this trekking. Good trekking equipments with your own sleeping bag and trekking pole would be nice for indigenous Tamang heritage trekking holidays.
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to Hotel. An introduction meeting and tour briefing will be held in the afternoon.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley.
The sightseeing takes you to experience & observe different historical and cultural sites such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,460 meters)
9 hours drive to Syabrubesi, the starting point of Tamang Heritage Trail trekking in the region of Langtang.
Day 4: Syabrubesi – Goljung (1,960 meters) – Gatlang (2,240m) trekking.
Begin trekking for about 6 hours from Syabrubesi to Goljung (1,960 meters) a Tamang village with ancient monasteries and beautiful hats, rest and explore the area. From Goljung, you will trek for another 5 hours to Gatlang, a large Tamang village set high on a hillside among terraced fields for overnight stay.
Day 5: Gatlang (2,240 meters) - Tatopani (2,240 meters) trekking.
Continue your exploration and trek for about 6 hours to the village of Tatopani (literally means hot water). The village has one of the biggest and hottest natural hot springs in Nepal, good to heal aches and pains from the trek.
Day 6: Tatopani - Nagthali (3,300m) - Thuman (2,000m) trekking.
Trek for about 6 hours to Nagthali, the high open grassland with amazing views of snow covered Himalayas and the Tibetan range. On top of the hill lies a Buddhist monastery. Continue to trek to Thuman, a Tibetan influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance.
Day 7: Thuman - Timure (2,240m) – Rasuwagadhi (2,240m) Trekking
Start trekking for about 7 hours to Timure with an en-route to the old trade route to Tibet. Here it leads to the historical fort at Rasuwagadhi rests in the banks of the river. An old suspension bridge is the linkage between Nepal and Tibet. You will return to Timure for your overnight stay at a community lodge.
Day 8: Timure - Briddhim (2,290m) trekking.
Trek for about 6 hours to Briddim, another Tibetan influence Tamang village. Go on village walks with your host family to see the lifestyle, traditions and customs of the people. The villagers will gather in the evening in their traditional costume, performing cultural songs and dances, as a gesture of welcoming guests to their home.
Day 9: Briddhim (2,290 meters) – Syabrubesi (1,460 meters) trekking.
Trek for about 4 hours to Syabrubesi, the final leg of the Tamang Heritage Trail
Day 10: Syabrubensi – Kathmandu overland bus tour.
Return to Kathmandu on a 7 hours drive.
Day 11: Free day in Kathmandu.
Spend free day in Kathmandu. Shopping gift souvenir, relaxation and meeting friends etc.
Day 12: Kathmandu Airport
Your trip ends with a transfer to airport as per your flight schedule. Fly back to home with beautiful memories of the trip and with determination to be back again.
