Tibet adventure overland tour is a journey that all adventure seekers should not miss! We start from Tibet fascinating capital of Lhasa. Here, we visit the famous Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple, catch the monk debating in Sera Monastery, follow the pilgrim circuit in Ganden and explore the bazaar of Barkhor.
Leaving Lhasa, we make a 5 days/4 nights overland journey across the moon like Tibetan plateau and over the mighty Himalayas. En route, we stop at the historical township and quaint villages as well as high altitude lakes. The highlight of this journey is without doubt a day hike to the Base Camp of Everest, the world highest mountain!
Traveling in Tibet can be rough and the high altitude is a concern. Our package offers the best hotel in the city, private vehicle to make the adventure as comfortable as possible.
Day 1: Arrive to Lhasa
Upon arrival in Lhasa, met & transfer to your hotel. At 3500m, it is advisable to take the rest of the day easily for better acclimatization.
Day 2: Lhasa tour
Start of exploration of Lhasa. Visit the Potala Palace - listed as an UNESCO world heritage site. It dominates the city of Lhasa and is perhaps the most famous landmark of Tibet. Please note that Potala Palace restricts the visiting time to one hour inside the palace/museum. In the afternoon, you will visit the Jokhang monastery - the central cathedral perhaps the most important monastery in Tibet. Also, visit a nunnery. You will have free time for exploring the Barkhor- the bustling market in the heart of old Lhasa with its narrow streets.
Day 3: Lhasa tour
Today, we make an excursion to Ganden Monastery about 2 hours drive away. The Monastery is at 4500m and commands a great view. You will also enjoy a short hike around the surrounding villages to experience the Tibetan rural life. After a packed lunch, we drive back to Lhasa to visit Sera Monastery, which is one of the best-preserved monasteries in Tibet. Within its whitewashed walls and golden roofs, several hundred monks live and study.
Day 4: Lhasa/Yamdrok Lake/Gyantse.
Leaving Lhasa, we drive over 2 spectacular high passes, Kampa La at 4750m and Karo La at 5010m. We also pass the beautiful turquoise lake of Yamdrok and cross endless rugged plateau with the snow-capped ranges of the Himalayas as the backdrop. It is a 261 km drive taking about 7 to 8 hours. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route.
Day 5: Gyantse to Xigatse
This morning, we make an excursion to Gyantze (3950m) 60km or about 2 hours drive away. Here you will visit Pelkor Chode Monastery and the Kumbum, an oversized chorten with 100 000 Buddha images. Return to Xigatze in the afternoon and tour the impressive Tashilunmpo Monastery, seat of Panchen Lama, second in order to Dalai Lama.
Day 6: Xigatse to Xegar
We continue our journey across the Tibetan plateau and today is journey is the longest taking up to 9 hours. But it is probably the most spectacular. You will cross Tsuo La Pass at 4500m and Gyatso La Pass at 5222m. If you are energetic, make further detour to visit the Sakya Monastery. Arrive in Xegar at 4300m
Day 7: Xegar/Everest Base Camp/Xegar.
Today is perhaps the highlight of the trip as we come face to face to the world tallest mountain Mt. Everest. Head off the main overland route and the road rise steeply up the foothills of the Himalayas to arrive at Rongbuk Monastery at 5,030m, just below the Rongbuk glacier. Spend a full day hiking up to Everest Base Camp. Return to Rongbuk and drive to Xegar for overnight
Day 8: Xegar to Zhangmu
It is about 6 hours drive today and it is another spectacular day. From the barren rugged landscape of Tibet, we cross the mighty Himalayas and scenery changes to rich forests, typical of the Nepalese foothills. Arrive at Zhangmu at 2500.
Day 9: Zhangmu to Kathmandu
Walk across the Friendship Bridge, you will be in Nepal. Another 6 hours drive brings you to Katmandu, the exotic capital of Nepal.
Day 10: Tibet tour ends at Kathmandu or extend holidays to Nepal for tour and trekking.
