Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek 19 days

This morning we leave Kathmandu for our long trek to Everest. Drive by local bus to Jiri through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. Jiri is a hill station town, explore the surrounding area and overnight at the hotel.

Jiri is also known as the Switzerland of Nepal. It is very beautiful place. Start our adventurous trek offers us beautiful country side scenery from each ridge top and we passing through friendly villagers and farm fields. We pass many down hills and uphill till reach to a small settlement at Bhandar.

Breakfast and trek for 5 to 6 hours to Sete. We walk uphill and downhill mountain trail through villages and forests.

From Sete, trek ascends to the Lamjura Pass (3530m). From the Lamjura pass we can see the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. We cross it and then descend through the rhododendron, fir pine, magnolia, maple and birch forest and finally reach Junbesi.

This day we cross the Junbeshi Khola and then walk in the ascending slope through the forest. After some hours of climbing we see the amazing view of the mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nupte, Makalu, Thamserku, Mera Peak, and many more. We continue the trail to Salung and then descend to Ringmo Khola. Again we walk up hill and cross Trakshindo La pass and finally descend down to Nunthala through the conifer and rhododendron forests, and terraced fields.

This day also we continue climbing down to the Dudh Koshi River. Then we follow the Dudh Koshi River and walk up ward to Khumbu. Then we climb to Jubing. From there we walk straight and descend to cross a suspension bridge and finally ascend to Bupsa Danda.

Today our trail ascends from Bupsa and head on to Bhumsing village (2,300m) and the trail continues to the north side of the valley to reach Puiyan village (2,796m). After Puiyan trail leads us on the long winding trail with few small ups and downs to Surkhe.

After breakfast we start to climb to north to Chaurikharka (2,713m) a large scattered village with monastery and high school. Chaurikharka is also the bread basket for the Khumbu area because the land is very fertile for barley, wheat and enough green vegetables. Today our trail joins from Lukla towards Phakding, making the path quite busy with more trekkers, porters and pack animals and few hours of good scenic walk brings you at Phakding for the overnight.

After breakfast we will continue up the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing it twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo, the entrance of the Sagarmatha National Park. When enter the National park boundary we descend and a gradual walk brings us to the suspension bridge over the Bhote-Koshi river to Jorsalle village, the last village till Namche Bazaar. Namche is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region.

Take rest for the proper acclimatization with some excursion. We can hike to the Everest View Hotel, the ideal place to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. You can walk around the Khumjung valley, Hillary School and Khunde Hospital and then return back to Namche. In Namche Bazaar you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people.

Today after breakfast, start a pleasant walk through the forest with magnificent view of mountains. The great view of the mighty peaks of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde peak with view of the eastern snow capped mountains. The trail leads uphill through the forested path and the hardly walk to get to Tyangboche. One of the most beautiful place in the Himalaya and the first thing that comes to your eye is the big Monastery, then the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering majestic beautiful peak Ama Dablam.

From Tengboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of Mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. We take our time so we avoid getting affected by the altitude.

Today you can enjoy another day for acclimatization. We will have trip to Chhukung valley via the Imja Khola valley to get a marvelous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse’s massive south wall, then return to Dingboche in the evening.

Today, the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We continue to climb as we are heading to Lobuche(4910m) which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Some breathing problems may arise today due to the altitude.

This is another big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp( 5365 m), the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak shep for the night.

This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. In the morning we climb Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak. From Kala Pattar we can see the most magnificent mountain panorama of Everest (884m), towers directly ahead and other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. We make a quick descent to Gorak Shep, a tiny hamlet at 5180 meters then trek down to Pheriche.

We retrace our route back to Tengboche via Pangboche. We descend on the steep path to the Dudh Koshi and then climb up to Namche Bazaar.

Finally we return to Lukla where the trek began, which will seem like a lifetime ago. Enjoying time to reflect on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part. Also giving you time to explore the town.
